The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award—Australia is an extracurricular framework offered at MacKillop College to students in Year 9 or above. There are three levels offered—Bronze, Silver, and Gold—with each level demanding an increased level of commitment.
Participation in the Duke of Ed is entirely voluntary and requires a high level of student engagement, motivation, and ownership. While the award levels are structured to assist in the development of your child’s confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills, students are responsible for designing, completing, and documenting their own unique programme.
The required elements of the Duke of Ed Award are;
the completion of two overnight adventurous journeys in each level.
weekly participation in a chosen skill, service, and physical recreation component in each level.
the completion of an individual 5-day residential journey at Gold Level.
Duke of Ed challenges young people not only to complete the compulsory elements of the framework but also challenges them to provide documentary evidence of their accomplishments.
