Year 12 Graduation Night
Last week we had the pleasure of celebrating the Year 12 Class of 2024 at their graduation dinner. Students, parents, families, and staff gathered for a wonderful evening of celebration. Many thanks to our Business and Events team, who put together a beautiful evening, and to Mr. Bruce Smith, the Year 12 Leader of Pastoral Care, who gave a beautiful farewell speech.
Each year at the graduation ceremony, the Year 12 students are presented with a small gift from the College as a memento of their MacKillop journey. This year, however, student leaders asked that in lieu of the gift, a donation of $2000 be split between three charities that are important to our Year 12 students. The charities chosen were MacKillop College’s Legal Justice Fund, which received $600; Fauna, which also received $600; and Make A Difference (MAD), receiving an $800 donation.
This generosity demonstrated the kindness and compassion this group of young men and women has shown throughout their high school days. We wish you all the very best for the future and look forward to celebrating their HSC results in December.

2025 MacKillop College House Structure and Leadership
In the Week 5 Assembly, the staff leaders for our three new houses were introduced. The College is very fortunate to have highly skilled Leaders of Pastoral Care (to be known as Leaders of Wellbeing in 2025) and Leaders of Learning. These staff ensure students have the opportunity to thrive, both in their learning and their wellbeing.
The diagram below outlines the House leaders.
House Crest Design
A competition to design the crests for our new houses is currently underway. Students, staff, and families are welcome to enter.
End of Year dates and reminders
This is a reminder for all parents that the end of the year is a special time for the culture and spirit of MacKillop College. All school days, up until and including Wednesday, 18 December, are compulsory. Our Christmas Mass and Awards Ceremonies are very important occasions where we celebrate being a Catholic school community through our Mass and through the acknowledgment of students' efforts and achievements.
I ask that parents not be pressured by their young person into thinking that “no one goes to school on those days.” Our expectation is that all students attend.
Parents are warmly invited to our special events in the coming weeks.

Christmas Hamper Appeal 2024
Imitating the compassion of Jesus and being a Christian example to others, MacKillop College will provide a total of 24 Christmas hampers to help families celebrate Christmas.
We offer these beautiful gifts to families who have experienced difficulties over the past year. This may be due to poor health, a death in the family, financial hardship, or another stressful circumstance.
Each Year 7 Pastoral Care group is currently working with a Year 9 Pastoral Care group to create a hamper to give to a family who has experienced difficulties over the past year. Each pastoral care teacher has organized a plan for their group so that everyone can contribute to this wonderful initiative.
Finishing strong
As we approach the last four weeks of the year, I spoke with Year 7 in our recent Year Assembly about finishing strong. It is the perfect opportunity for Year 7 to reflect on all that they’ve learned and to prepare for their final assessments. It is really important for all our students to keep a positive mindset. With a bit of determination and focus, our Year 7 students can wrap up this term with confidence and pride in their accomplishments. Let’s make these final weeks count!
Code of Presentation
This is a reminder to ensure students adhere to the Code of Presentation in the year's final weeks. A few areas of concern include skirt and sports shorts lengths, correct shoes, and jewellery. Thanks for your support in these areas.
Christmas Craft
Year 7 has been getting into the Christmas spirit with a crafty before-school activity in the library. Their colourful efforts will be displayed in the library and their PC rooms.

Camp
After weeks of preparation and anticipation, Year 8 embraced the opportunity to camp, and the experience did not disappoint. The group had a blast with a variety of different and challenging. The highlight for me was witnessing Year 8 thrive away from their creature comforts, rising to meet new challenges and truly “finding happiness in making others happy.” It was such a pleasure to share this experience with them.
To parents and carers, thank you for your help in preparing our young people for the week away. You would have been proud to witness their independence, maturity, enthusiasm for activities, and kindness to each other.
To the staff who accompanied our Year 8 students, thank you for giving up your time to care for our students whilst away. Your selflessness, energy, and joy in guiding your group are genuinely appreciated. Many thanks to Alison Montgomery for all her planning and thoughtfulness to make for an incredible camp, Kylie Smith, who assisted in all the excursion preparations, and the fantastic staff who made these memories possible.
Also, to Year 8 students, thank you for being such happy campers. Your respect, cooperation, zest, and vitality sustained over four days are a credit to you and made camp a great success for all. I am sure you have many memories to reflect on and will continue to recall these for some time.

Canberra Excursion
Our excursion to the nation’s capital offered us poignant reminders of the impact of war on families and the nation, interesting insights into the workings of democracy, a unique experience of parliamentary processes and question time, awareness of upcoming athletes’ regimes, and an aesthetic appreciation of our country’s arts, history, and culture. Thank you to all parents who supported their children in attending the Canberra excursion, allowing them to explore new places and cultures, build relationships, have fun, and gain knowledge they cannot get from textbooks or websites.
I want to extend a huge thank you to the staff members who chaperoned the students: Ms. Jennifer Campbell, Mr. Adam Kelly, Mrs. Ann Palmer, Mrs. Amber Mann, Mr. Lee Hancock, Miss Abigail Ross, Mrs. Abbie Beauchamp, Mr. Zackary Bennett, Mr. Greg Finney, Mr. Zachary Nancarrow, Mr. Matt King, and Mr. Mackenzie Murray. Special mention and thanks to our leader of HSIE, Nicole Bailey, who enabled this opportunity to go forward and meticulously organized such a massive event for everyone’s enjoyment. Our Year 9 attendees are truly worthy of praise as they engaged with the various activities respectfully and undoubtedly came away with valuable learning experiences. It was wonderful to share the experience with this large group of young people, socializing and bonding in unfamiliar territory.
Year 9 Camp
The Australian Government recognizes the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Australian Government contributed $45 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program, which reduced the overall cost of the excursion for our families. MacKillop students are very grateful for the opportunity to experience our national sites and the sponsorship provided by this wonderful program.
It was pleasing to learn of the cooperative attitude of those students who engaged in the HSIE learning activities at school. Students must submit their booklets with evidence of learning to their history teacher.
Christmas Hamper Donations
It is Christmas Hamper time again—how amazing we can support some of our families through these beautiful gifts!
Every year, PCs join with another PC to create a Christmas hamper for a family who has faced difficulties this year due to sickness, death, or financial hardships.
We request each student to contribute towards preparing a hamper with non-perishable food products and presents for this family so that their Christmas is to share a little love with our “family.” It is hoped collecting goods or money will be ready by Friday next week so that we have time to put them together for distribution on Friday, 3 December.
We ask that each student contribute to the hamper by bringing in a food item and $5 towards presents OR $10 total for the shopping. This is a great way for your child to learn the gift of giving.
We hope you will help Year 9 support this venture.
We have been doing this for many years now and have been lucky enough to hear feedback of the joy from families receiving a hamper, and it is priceless.
Feed the hungry and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon. Isaiah 58:10

Celebrating the Spirit of Giving and Milestones
As we approach the end of the year, it is a time to reflect on the values that unite us as a community—generosity, celebration, and gratitude.
Christmas Hamper Appeal – Sharing the Joy of Giving
Each year, our Pastoral Care (PC) groups come together to prepare a Christmas hamper for a family in need within our community. This year, PC groups are teaming up to support a family who has faced challenges such as illness, loss, or financial hardship.
Our task is to create a hamper filled with non-perishable food items and thoughtful gifts to ensure this family experiences the joy of Christmas. To make this possible, we ask each student to contribute:
- a non-perishable food item and $5 towards gifts; or
- a $10 donation and we will handle the shopping!
The contribution deadline is Friday, 3 December, giving us time to assemble the hampers the following week. This initiative is a wonderful way for students to learn the value of giving and to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Over the years, we have received heartfelt feedback from families who were touched by this initiative, and the impact is truly priceless. Thank you for your generosity and support.
Year 10 Formal—Important Information
As we celebrate the end of the school year, we often receive inquiries regarding a Year 10 formal. We would like to clarify that a Year 10 formal is not a college-endorsed event. While some families or community groups may choose to organize a formal gathering independently, this is not affiliated with or supported by the College.
The milestone of completing Year 10 is officially celebrated through the Year 10 Community Day—Endless Summer. This event, held during school hours, is a meaningful and inclusive way for students to reflect on their journey, connect with their peers and teachers, and celebrate their achievements.
If you have any questions about Year 10 celebrations, please contact us. We are proud of the achievements of our Year 10 students and look forward to celebrating the completion of Year 10 with them.

It’s hard to believe that our students are now officially Year 12s! This term has been a whirlwind of fun, excitement, and achievement, and we’re so proud of everything they’ve accomplished. We’ve had an incredible start to the ‘Class of 2025’ already!
SNR Jerseys 2025
Our Year 12 students looked impressive in their brand-new senior jerseys! It was incredible to see the entire year group united in their stylish jerseys. The jerseys not only signified the start of their final year of high school but also seemed to elevate their sense of identity and community. It was truly inspiring to witness the transformation in how the students viewed themselves and each other. Another huge thank you to Mrs. Porter for all her work with organizing the jerseys!

Hospitality - World Skills Competition
Last week, two of our talented hospitality students, Jasmine Bewicke and George Worner, proudly represented MacKillop College at the prestigious Regional WorldSkills Competition held at Newman Technical College. Competing for a coveted spot on the NSW team for the national competition, both students showcased exceptional culinary expertise, coupled with remarkable maturity and resilience under pressure.
Their dedication and skill were evident throughout the competition, and they have made our college incredibly proud with their outstanding efforts. We commend Jasmine and George for their achievements and wish them the very best as we eagerly await the results, which are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Congratulations on this significant accomplishment, and thank you for representing MacKillop College with such distinction!

NSWCCC Junior Girls Basketball Finals
I was fortunate enough to be asked to coach the 7/8 Girls' Basketball team for the NSWCCC Basketball Junior finals, which were held in Bankstown on Monday and Tuesday, November 4 and 5.
The CCC Girls Basketball Tournament saw intense competition as teams gave it their all on the court, showing skill, resilience, and sportsmanship. The games were highly competitive, with players delivering impressive displays of teamwork and a true MacKillop spirit of encouragement.
One of the tournament's highlights was our girls' fierce determination and sportsmanship. In our first game against La Salle Lithgow, the girls showed resilience in the face of pressure to take the win. The rest of the games were very close, and the girls were determined never to give up.
Despite an injury, our girls showed determination and perseverance to continue.
We wish Maya Perry a speedy recovery.
I would like to personally thank Mrs. Nicole McIlroy and Narelle Blair for their unwavering support of the girls and me. It was remarkable to have them close to score and be wonderful first aid help. I would also like to thank Amber Mann, who travelled with the girls.
I can’t wait to see how the girls go again next year! MVP was Grace Collins.

NRL League Tag
U14 Girls Team
Well, it was a hot one. The temperature was very humid and well above 30 degrees by our first game, but that didn’t stop the girls from bringing their best and taking down Wingham 9-0 in the opener. The girls held on in the heat to a draw against St Clare’s and went down to Camden Haven and Hastings, who were the grand finalists. This year saw a younger side come together, and I commend the girls on their extraordinary talent, perseverance, and sportsmanship. You were an absolute pleasure to coach. Special mention goes to our captains, London Curtis and Ayla Vonbun, who showed strong leadership skills in tough conditions. The team included Bronte Cross, Tahney Cross, Brooke Young, Indi Easton, Amalee Welch, Frankie Healey, Piper Trindall, Alice Eakin, Zy Hogan, Summer Waller, and Demi Gluyas. MVP was Ayla Vonbun.
Jamie Cartwright (Coach)
U16 Girls Team
The U16 girls participated in the League Tag gala day at Tuffins Lane in Port Macquarie on Thursday, Week 4. Despite the scorching conditions, they had an extremely successful day.
The girls kicked the day off with a strong win against Wingham High (13-4). Their second game was a close one against Hastings—Port High. In the second half, the girls managed to score a try, giving them a 5-0 victory. In their final round game, they had an impressive win against Melville High with a score of 21-8. Despite some initial reluctance to play in the finals, the girls gave it their all in a condensed game against St Clare’s High School. The convenors and coaches unanimously agreed against going into extra time due to the extreme heat, bringing the final score to a nil-all draw. The girls consistently played with a high level of skill and great sportsmanship. Well done!!
The team consisted of Milla Swain, Mikaeli Morgan, Janaye Singh, Sarah Blackney, Ella Oliver, Inala Gibbs, Lucy Randall, Taite Gibson, Charlotte Weatherley, Autumn Curtis, Darcie Gleeson, Indy Murray, Charlee Lawlor, Gemirah Fernando, and Pippa Wilson.
Special mention to Mrs. Cudmore for running trial selections and training in the weeks leading up to the gala day. MVP was Janaye Singh.
Courtney Charge (Coach)
Diocesan Golf Championships
On Monday, eighteen boys travelled to South West Rocks to represent the College in that uniquely frustrating pastime, golf. The course was in top nick, and the weather was highly conducive to spoiling a nice walk. A shotgun start saw the boys spread across holes one through eighteen, but everyone did themselves proud. Edward Coombes and Angus Oakeshott each got a gong, coming first and third of the stick. In other news, MacKillop alumni Billy Gleeson, the sole representative of Newman College on the day, aced the sixth hole.
Congratulations to him and, of course, our boys: Riley Bates, Callum Clancey, Edward Coombes, William Coombes, Harley Cottom, Jarrod Dingle, Patrick Field, Riley Garel, Kale Haese, Blake Liddle, Rocky Mann, Angus Oakeshott, Samuel Ramke, Jake Riches, Jack Ryan, Ajay Sen Gupta, James Strahorn, and Chase Thompson. MVP was Edward Coombes.
Brent Lowrey and Anna Gleeson (Coaches)
Junior Girls
On Wednesday, 13 November, the Year 7/8 Girls Netball team competed in the final round of the NSW Schools Cup State Finals. Facing exceptionally strong competition, the girls played three challenging matches against Caroline Chisholm, St. John’s South Coast, and Xavier High School, with each game testing their endurance, grit, and determination. While the team was unable to progress to the semi-finals, they represented MacKillop College with pride, demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship, integrity, and camaraderie both on and off the court.
The team consisted of Tilly Sinclair (co-captain), Zoe Townsend (co-captain), Chelsea Hodges, Ruby Winter, Indie Gardoll-Marjoribanks, Ruby Williams, Olivia Edmund, Madison Flowers, Bianca Harrison, and Madilyn Tinley.
MVPs were Zoe Townsend and Tilly Sinclair.
Tiffany Edwards (Coach)
Junior Boys
The 7/8 Boys MacKillop netball team recently competed at this year’s State Finals and faced off against some of the top teams across all schools in the state. The boys showcased exceptional determination, skill, and sportsmanship throughout the competition and ended up with an impressive 6th place.
The team put in many hours of training and hard work, and it certainly paid off, as their enthusiasm, cohesion, and support for one another did not go unnoticed. Competing at the state level is no small feat, so well done to the boys for making us proud! The team consisted of Francis Borja, Ryder Colthorpe (Captain), Riley Garel, Max Jordan, Rocky Mann, Manni McGrath, Jake Riches, Ben Romer, and Oto Ryan. MVP was Ryder Colthorpe.
Amber Mann (Coach)
Diocesan Senior Water Polo
Senior Girls Team
The Open Girls Water Polo team travelled to Ballina for the Diocesan Water Polo Championships last Thursday.
The girls fought hard but came up against some very tough opposition, including teams from Woodlawn, Trinity, and Coffs Harbour, who all have local weekly water polo competitions they compete in. Congratulations to Molly McGrath and Lucy Strahorn, who both scored goals on the day. The MVP on the day was Milly McGrath, who not only scored goals on the day but also did a fantastic job in goals during our first game against Woodlawn. Well done, girls. MVP was Milly McGrath.
Tracey Bewicke (Coach)
Senior Boys
The Senior Boys' Water Polo team made waves at the Diocesan Open Water Polo Championships in Alstonville. Despite their limited experience, their commitment to training and learning the sport shone through. Facing seasoned teams, they displayed impressive defensive prowess, holding their ground and demonstrating teamwork under pressure. While the team experienced three losses, they seized opportunities to control the ball and score striking goals. The invaluable experience gained from competing at this level will serve them well in next year's competition, showcasing their determination and growth in the sport. Team: Riley Bates, Harley Cottom. Jarrod Dingle, Kale Hase, Angus Oakshott, Samuel Ramke, Owen Hilikemeijer, Jack Ryan, and Chase Thompson MVP was Owen Hilikemeijer.
Rhys Jones (Coach)
Catholic Cup Girls Cricket
Last week, I had the pleasure of taking our MacKillop girl's cricket team to Wayne Richards Park to compete in round 1 and round 2 of the girls' Catholic Cup. In round 1, we came up against St Pius X Adamstown, who narrowly defeated us in the 2023 competition. Roles were reversed this year, with MacKillop winning by a total of 33 runs. Lane Jordan top-scored with a total of 24 runs while Charlotte Newman tied down an end, with St Pius only scoring a single run in her 2-over spell. A win then meant we contested round 2 of the competition, where we came up against All Saints College Maitland. Maitland opted to bat first and set a total of 53 for us to chase down. With some superb batting by Frankie Healey, MacKillop cruised to the winning total with a loss of only 2 wickets. The most valuable players went to Frankie Healey and Amelia Williams. The wins now see us contest the semifinal/final of the Catholic Cup in early 2025. A big thank you to Max Jordan, who scored for us all day, and Colin Coehlo for umpiring. As always, the girls were a pleasure to coach, and I look forward to taking them to the next level. MVP was Frankie Healey and Amelia Williams.

Cut-off time is 8.00 am.
Any orders placed after 8.00 am default to the following day. It is very time-consuming for canteen staff to have to check all late orders every day and then contact parents about their order.
If you make a mistake, please call the office or send your child to the canteen.
There have also been new gluten-free items added to the menu.
Canteen Help Needed
The canteen is desperately seeking volunteers for one hour per month. No cooking, cleaning or stocking is needed, just serving our lovely students. Even if you can only do one half-hour shift it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you to all of our current volunteers, we appreciate your help.
Sign up and receive a Welcome Pack (coffee voucher, chocolates, voucher for your child to use at the canteen).
