Principal's Update
COMPASS is coming… Are you ready?
A reminder that from Monday 10 July, a SMS will be sent to you, via your child’s school Compass Portal, informing you that your unique username and password will be sent to your registered email address with the school. You may wish to check with the school your current registered email address, and mobile phone number so that your unique username and password can be communicated to you. Every parent/guardian/carer receives a separate login (to a different email address) to Compass which we will send to you on the week commencing Monday, July 10.
The text/email message will contain two links;
- 1. A link to a document outlining how to download the Compass School Manager App and the best way to search for your school.
- 2. A link to a form to register for help in case you experience any difficulties logging onto the app. A representative from the Diocese of Lismore Compass Team will make contact to give you assistance.
We have included a PDF document that you can view outlining details of how you can, through the app, open in a browser to access further documents within your Compass portal.
As the move to our new Communication Platform and Parent App Compass draws near we wish to communicate one of the key features of the application. The Event module in Compass is quite powerful and a seamless way for you to give consent and pay for Events. An Event is classed as an excursion, camp, sporting activity or anything where your child leaves the grounds of the school. As a parent, you have the ability to see any medical information regarding your child every time an event is published. You will also be asked to review any “action” plan that has been provided by you to us for a medical condition that your child may have.
The “Action Plan” is the Plan of Action that will be followed by those attending the event if your child has a medical episode relating to their medical condition. That is - an Asthma Plan, Anaphylaxis Plan or other medical emergency plan.
As a parent, you can provide updated Medical Conditions within the Event Module which will trigger an email to be sent to the school to review and update the medical conditions. If the Action Plan that is attached to the event is not the current and most recent Action Plan for your child please email the school the most recent and updated plan so that your child's medical information is correct.
Throughout the onboarding process, we will be sharing a list of documents (PDFs) "How to's...." on how to get the most out of your Compass Application.
The compass app - Have you downloaded it yet?

We are extremely lucky to have such hard-working staff and students in our school.
School review feedback and high expectations
One of the key pieces of feedback from our recent Review and the Tell Them From Me surveys were the desire for the high expectations for which MacKillop is known, and often the reason for being the school of choice for many families, continues. High standards of behaviour expectations and uniforms were both mentioned frequently in our survey.
I ask parents to support staff in maintaining these high standards by ensuring their child meets these on their return to Term 3.
TERM 2 THANK YOU AND HOLIDAY BEST WISHES
I would like to take this opportunity to thank staff and students for their hard work in Term 2. A busy Term academically and across the multitude of co and extracurricular activities on offer right across our mission, arts and sporting opportunities. May each of you have a restful and enjoyable holiday break and I look forward to seeing you in Term 3.

Take Time to Consider
In delivering the curriculum across each of the eight key learning areas, teachers create programs that seek to incorporate Catholic Social Justice principles. In this way, we hope that young people will come to recognise social justice and faith as being at the core of all humane activity.
Catholic Social Justice principles include:
- Human dignity
- Subsidiarity
- The common good
- Solidarity
- Care for our common home
- Preferential option for the poor
I recently came across an article suggesting the Catholic Social Justice principle as an appropriate and useful lens for considering your response to the upcoming referendum. I have attached this for your consideration.

Semester 1 Reports
Semester 1 student reports will be distributed via the online Parent Portal today at the close of the Awards Ceremony. We would like all parents to be aware of how to register for and access the online portal. Please click here for instructions.
If you are having trouble accessing the Parent Portal, reports can be viewed via Schoolworx on your child's device.
NAPLAN 2023
Earlier in the year MacKillop College students from Years 7 and 9 participated in the National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). They completed tests for reading, writing, language conventions, and numeracy. This data helps to provide the school and parents with information highlighting both strengths and areas of development. As with all data, NAPLAN results should be considered alongside the many variables of a testing program. Parents and guardians are reminded that the NAPLAN results have no bearing on their child’s English or Mathematics grade at MacKillop College, nor their ability to meet the National Minimum Standards or receive their HSC.
The NAPLAN results will be distributed to students during PC at the beginning of Term 3.
Well done to all Year 7 and 9 on their application towards these tests.
NAPLAN 2023 - Information for Parents and Carers
Year 11 2024 Information Night
Next term all Year 10 students and parents are invited to attend an information evening to discuss subject selection and the process for enrolment for Year 11 2024 on Wednesday 26 July at 6pm in the Lochinvar Centre. Assistant Principal - Pastoral
Dear Parents and Carers,
Seasons for Growth is an innovative, evidence-based change, loss and grief education program that draws on the metaphor of the environmental seasons to understand the experience of grief. This program has been running for over 20 years and enables participants to learn they are not alone in their experiences of change, loss and grief.
By participating in this program participants work collaboratively with each other and a trained companion to build on the knowledge necessary to strengthen their social and emotional wellbeing. Through exploring the impact of loss and developing effective ways to respond and adapt, participants reflect on the unique ways different ‘seasons’ in life are experienced.
MacKillop College is grateful to be able to offer this program to our students in Years 7 - 10. The Seasons for Growth program will commence in Term 3 and is facilitated in a small group of 4 - 8 students.
For further information regarding the program please visit the website https://www.goodgrief.org.au/
For expression of interest please contact your Leader of Pastoral Care on 6583 2632 or via email.

Ocean Drive Roadworks Update
Message from Ditchfield Contracting
We are soon to commence work at the Jonas Absalom Drive / Pacific Drive intersection. This work involves the closure of both roads, in stages. Jonas Absalom Drive access from Ocean Drive will be closed from the 3rd of July for between 4-6 weeks. At this time we are aware it is school holidays for a period, but upon recommencing, students will have their morning bus transport adjusted temporarily.
While Jonas Absalom Drive is closed at Ocean Drive, access to the normal bus route will change for those on Jonas Absalom Drive and connected streets. Buses will not be able to turn around in local streets and so all services will need to be accessed from a temporary bus stop on Sapphire Drive for the duration of the closure.
Residents, and families with children catching school buses from Jonas Absalom Drive or connected streets will be impacted.
A shuttle bus service will be in place between 7am - 9am and 3pm - 5pm to ferry students and community members from their regular bus stops on Jonas Absalom Drive to the temporary bus stop to connect with their regular service during peak times.
We are working with Busways, schools and families who use the service to manage this temporary change. Public transport and school bus routes are less affected during the Pacific Drive closure at Ocean Drive.
Buses will continue their regular service on Bangalay Drive and Livingstone Drive. All other bus stops along the project corridor remain unchanged.
Busways Update
Due to the Ocean Drive road works, Busways have had to make some changes to services as a result of the temporary closure of Jonas Absalom Drive. Please see the below links which provide information on the affected services.
St Agnes Uniform Store
The St Agnes Uniform Store will be closed for stocktake next week. The last day of trading will be this Saturday 1 July. They will reopen Monday, 10 July.
A4Art Award Winners Announced
It was a kaleidoscope of colour and creativity at the Creative Arts Nest, 2023 A4Art Prize Awards Night on Friday night, where after months of touring exhibitions and behind-the-scenes action, the A4Art Winners were announced.
A full house of 400 which included 160 St Agnes’ Education student and staff finalists, along with proud families, judges, sponsors and community members packed the Newman Senior Technical College venue, catered by Newman students and staff and entertained by musicians from St Joseph’s Regional College.
With 450 entries, more than double last year's, the 2023 A4Art Competition is the biggest art competition in the region. The brief was for Artists to create an artwork by using just ONE A4 size piece of paper. Draw, paint, scribble, fold, sculpt, cut, mould, shred, or write on the paper – use it in any way the artist envisions! The A4Art competition was run across all six St Agnes’ Parish Schools and there were entry categories from Kindergarten students all the way up to Year 12 and Staff.
There was an overwhelming community response to the A4Art Prize this year, with some incredible statistics to share including:
- 5,394 voting tokens were placed in jars where students and staff voted for the People’s Choice Award while the 160 finalists' artworks toured all six of our Parish Schools in our A4Art Pop-Up Exhibition.
- 3,008 votes were cast at the 2023 Port Macquarie Artwalk, where an estimated 4,000 people visited our A4ArtRoom.
- Online we’ve had 5,100 votes cast with friends and families voting from over the world for the Community Choice Award, with over 13,000 new visitors to our website.
This year's competition was sponsored by...
Sunset Framing & Gallery, The Seed Creative, Wauchope Creative Hub, Affinity Helicopters, Stoney Park, Innervision Surf & Skate, Alice In Paperland, Drawn To Art, Arthouse Industries, Eckersley's Art & Craft, Agostina, Cassegrain, Wildnets Adventure Park & St Agnes Education.
Congratulations and thank you to all of our artists. Once again our St Agnes’ Education and Creative Arts Nest community is bursting with pride.

Year 7
Congratulations Year 7 on completing your first Semester of High School! Term 3 has been a great term, with students using their gifts and talents to highlight their strengths and potential in the classroom, sporting arena, community and extracurricular activities. Transitioning to high school is an achievement of which to be proud. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all parents and carers for your ongoing support and all staff for your tireless dedication to the learning and well-being of the young people in our care.
After a semester packed with hard work and numerous accomplishments, it's time for our Year 7 students to take a well-deserved break. The holidays provide an excellent opportunity for students to relax, rejuvenate, and recharge their batteries. I encourage all students to make the most of this time by engaging in activities they enjoy and spending quality time with family and friends.
College Reports will be published today providing students the opportunity to reflect on their progress, identify areas of strength and weakness, and set goals for the upcoming semester. I encourage parents and carers to engage in meaningful discussions with their children about their achievements and areas for improvement. Let's celebrate their successes and inspire them to reach even greater heights next semester.
The start of a new semester is a fresh opportunity to set new goals, explore new subjects, and embrace new challenges. On behalf of the Year 7 Pastoral Team, I hope that each student and family remain safe and well with time to rest and have fun during the next two weeks.
Happy holidays Year 7, take care and see you soon!

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
On Tuesday last week Year 8 experienced their first high school athletics carnival as a whole cohort in both competitive and non-non-competitive events. In magnificent winter weather, it was great to see and hear those students who participated enthusiastically, cooperatively and actively in their involvement. I was most pleased to learn during the event rotation throughout the day of the boys and girls who encouraged and affirmed each other and thanked the members of staff conducting various activities and events. Congratulations to all who participated and gave it their best go and made the day fun.
SMASHED PERFORMANCE
On Monday, Year 8 had the opportunity to view the Smashed performance that delivers the message of responsible drinking and links directly with units studied in PDHPE on decision-making, drug use and keeping ourselves and others safe.
The Smashed presentation enabled students to observe, explore and reflect on critical underage drinking issues including:
- The social and emotional causes;
- the impact on young lives;
- Social influence and decision-making; and
- Where and how to help yourself and others.
There were various examples for students to consider and a number of interactive scenarios as stimuli and prompts for the learning of this topic. It was a valuable presentation and equipped the students with the skills and confidence to make good choices and develop a responsible attitude to alcohol.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Luke Everson who has received a Silver Principal’s Award.
Congratulations to the following students who have received a Leader of Pastoral Care Award: Zeke Anderson, Blaze Colthorpe, Hunter Davis, Luke Everson, Ebony Hassett, Adam Hines and Claire Morris.
END OF SEMESTER
We have reached the halfway point of the school year - where has the time gone?
It has been a great semester; Year 8, can be proud of the positive choices they have made in their learning and relationships.
Today reports are published for review. I encourage students to look over their Semester One Report and note the approaches for continued application and any areas for improvement or development. Semester Two brings an opportunity to start fresh. I encourage carers to discuss with their child how have they used their time at MacKillop College effectively, whether they are proud of what they have achieved academically, socially and spiritually and where they might focus their efforts for personal progress.
Students and teachers alike are ready for a well-deserved break. On behalf of the Year 8 Pastoral Care team, I wish all students and staff a safe and relaxing break.
Nicole O’Connell
Year 8 Leader of Pastoral Care
Year 9
Term 2 has no doubt been one of the busiest that our students have ever had with so many different academic, sporting and co-curricular activities. Highlighted in Week 8 by our Connect and Belong Day, where students completed a number of activities designed to help them build healthy and trusting relationships with their peers. I’d like to congratulate all Year 9 students on engaging with the presenters in an exemplary manner!
Year 9 were also amazing competitors and supporters at our annual Athletics Carnival that was held last week. I personally, was incredibly impressed by the manner in which both the boys and girls groups participated in all competitive and novelty events on the day. It was a pleasure to spend the day with this group of students.
Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the students, parents and teachers of Year 9 at MacKillop who have been so supportive to work with for the last two terms as I hand over to Tom Salter, who will take over as Year 9 Leader of Pastoral Care for the remainder of 2023 and 2024.
Have a wonderful and restful holiday.
David Kennedy
Year 9 Leader of Pastoral Care
Year 10
Code of Presentation
At last week’s assembly, the students were reminded about following the Code of Presentation. In particular haircuts, jewellery, shoes/socks, undershirts and jumpers. Please remember that all students must abide by the Code of Presentation.
Newman College Visit
Representatives from Newman College visited MacKillop and spoke with Year 10 on Monday. This was their first introduction to Newman College and an insight into what it is like to be a student there. They were handed a Newman College Information Booklet which contains information about subjects, fees, student requirements and other relevant information. Year 10 will visit Newman College on 19 July 2023. Newman College enrolment information open night will be held on 25 July 2023 at 6:00pm. Congratulations to the many, many, many Year 11 students who received awards this week. A recognition for the academic talent you have, but more, a recognition of the wonderful effort you have put in through the last two terms.

Year 11 is a happy and likable year group whose energy and maturity create a strong foundation for success at a senior level. They are fun to be around, resilient under stress and proudly represent the values of our College by being kind, respectful and forgiving. Year 11 are caring and supportive of one another and value friendship over competition. In the first two terms, they settled into senior school by staying goal focused and by managing their time productively. I congratulate them on a wonderful first semester and encourage them to continue persevering.

Year 12
Athletics Carnival
A great day was had by all last week at the MacKillop College Athletics Carnival. Year 12 students did not disappoint with endless displays of colour, cheering, running, jumping and throwing to be seen throughout the day. As the carnival was the very last school carnival for our Year 12’s it was great to see so many students getting involved and having a fun day.
Thank you to our College House Captains: Benjamin Hamel, Isabella Morris, Harper Murray and Joshua Newton, who turned up at 7.00am to help with set up and spent the day cheering on their teams. Due to lack of time on the day the 17 and 18 years relays were held this week on Tuesday during lunchtime.
HSC Trials
HSC Trials will be held in Term 3 from 31 July until 14 August (Weeks 3 and 4). It is imperative that students know exactly when and where their exams will take place as a Flexible Timetable will be in place, meaning students will only be required to attend school when they have an exam. The HSC Trials Timetable can be found on Moodle under Assessments. Please find below a link to the HSC Trial Timetable.
Although the students are definitely ready for a holiday after a busy Term 2 it is very important that time is dedicated to studying over the holidays in preparation for their exams in Week 3.
The JMC Study Centre will be open for students to access during the holidays on both Wednesdays from 9.00am-3.00pm.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday with your families.

Co-curricular Performing Arts Showcase
The annual Co-curricular Performing Arts Showcase Concert will take place in the college theatre on Thursday 27 July from 6pm - 8:30pm. This concert features performances from all 2023 co-curricular music, dance and drama ensembles.
The concert is open to the college community and the general public, however, due to the limited seating in the theatre we ask that you contact the front office if you plan to attend. Families of those performing would have received an information note with a form linked. It is important that you fill this out in order to secure a seat.
The showcase concert is a wonderful opportunity for students to share their hard work and skill with a supportive audience. We look forward to seeing you at this event.

Sapps New Zealand Music Excursion 2023
A long trip across the ditch started at the Regional Campus at midnight as already weary students and teachers boarded coaches bound for Sydney. 74 students carrying instruments for a full concert band and sound equipment was a massive undertaking and the group navigated Sydney airport and on to Air New Zealand flight 722 like they had been doing this for years. The presence of the musicians kitted out in the travelling band uniforms created a buzz among those on the flight and throughout the trip a feature has been the positivity of connections with the wider community. After a very long day, we arrived at our accommodation in Queenstown but went for pizza as a group before going to our rooms to collapse.
Our first day started with a concert at Shotover School. Lots of eager young faces greeted us and were treated to songs from our choir and music from our concert band. The set has been interactive and the children have shown a keen interest in the instruments and in joining in singing. The teachers were so thankful and said it was the best music the kids had seen while students hung around the doors and watched the students packing up.
After the performance, the group enjoyed the high adrenalin Jetboat Experience whizzing down the Shotover River down steep gorges and doing ridiculous 360s soaking up the views and the icy cold water. The Jazz band then performed on the wharf in Queenstown to locals and tourists. The backdrop of the Remarkables and Lake Wakatipu was stunning as were the performances. After packing up they were treated to a scenic cruise across the lake before dinner at Lonestar.
Day 2 started with a drive to Wanaka where the group played a concert at Holy Family Catholic School in their church. The enthusiasm of the students was infectious and they nearly lifted the roof of the building. After another wonderful show, their older students performed a haka and some special prayers for our students. We also visited Puzzling World and the World Famous Bothy Backpackers. The students then climbed onto the coaches for the drive to Mount Cook where we were treated to stunning New Zealand scenery including snow-capped mountains, the bluest lakes and rivers, sweeping glacial valleys and the occasional sheep.
Everyone has been amazed by the talent of our students. The music has been tailored to their audiences. The staff have also been so proud of the maturity of our students as they have shown a remarkable ability to set up and pack away all of their equipment and manage luggage. We have a 5:30am start tomorrow and the stamina and enthusiasm shown by the group is awesome.

Athletics Carnival Results
Last Tuesday we hosted our Annual Athletics Carnival and what a beautiful day we were blessed with. After two years of disruptions to our carnivals due to weather and COVID, it was so great to see so many students attend the carnival and embrace the carnival atmosphere. The day ran smoothly with students showcasing their athleticism and having a great time at either the competitive or novelty events.
In the two weeks leading up to the carnival over 150 students participated in the pre-events including 1500, 800m, 400m and High Jump. The comradery among the students competing in the pre-events was great to be a part of – our students are to be commended for the way they support each other.
Congratulations to all place-getters, record-breakers and students that finished the carnival as Age Champion or Runner Up.
Congratulations to the Champion House FLINDERS who have been crowned the Champion Athletics House for 2023 well led by their House Captains Harper Murray and Cooper Lorger.
Thank you to all staff that ensured that the day ran smoothly in particular to Ben Manton, Chris Gridley and Susie Coster for their help in assisting to prepare the carnival and to Maxine, Jodie, Megan, Amber, Michelle and Jennie who kept everyone well fed. It was great to see parents and grandparents assisting and spectating on the day.

Rugby League U15’s against Camden Haven
The under 15’s had a friendly match against Camden Haven High School the game was played in good spirits with some tough collisions. Many members of the team rose to the occasion and played extremely well which allowed us to narrowly win 14 – 16. A big thank you goes to our coaches and helpers Geoff Leary & Mark Rowlatt. MVP: Sam Young.
Glen Littler (Coach)
Bill Turner Girls Round 4 against Camden Haven
Congratulations to the Bill Turner Girls who continue to build great momentum in the nationwide Bill Turner competition. The girls played Camden Haven High School at Camden Haven posting an impressive 9-2 win.
Our defence continues to be a key feature with very few teams able to break our backline of Frieda, Daisy, Ziva and Tameah. This is providing a great platform for our attacking players in our midfield through Sophie, Hannah and Grace to counterattack quickly and find our strikers Abby and Arliah up front scoring many goals with ease.
Abby Buttsworth 2, Hannah Gresswell 2, Claire Morris 1, Charlotte Taylor 1, Gracie Huxley 1.
Thank you to Amarlie and Zsofia for stepping in at the last minute to provide much-needed support off the bench.
The MVP was awarded to both Daisy Pees and Ziva Balkin who are so safe and strong in our defence.

Senior Boys AFL State Final, Tuggerah
Twenty MacKillop students travelled to Tuggerah to compete in the AFL state finals. They played 3 games against: Hunter Sports High, Edmund Rice College Wollongong and St Edward's Gosford. The winner would be the side that wins the most games or alternatively on for and against.
The boys stepped up to the mark in each of their games playing with plenty of energy, competitive spirit and skill. Unfortunately, they were beaten narrowly in each game but not from the want of trying.
It was a great effort from all the boys but special mention to Lochie Jones who was MVP on the day. Also, Lochie Bultitude, Pat Field, Noah Thick and Hamish Teasdell were in the thick of the action all day.
All the players should be congratulated for the way they conducted themselves on and off the field. Interim coach Will Kelly was outstanding in the way he prepared the team for each game and I'm sure will benefit from the experience.
Dave Sinclair/Peter Farrugia (Coaches)
Open Boys Basketball - MacKillop v Coomera
The Open Boys Basketball team recently played a friendly against Coomera Anglican College from the Gold Coast. The game against MacKillop was the first stop on Coomera’s tour, playing against schools up and down the North Coast.
The MacKillop team started strongly, leading at quarter time 28-11. The team from the Gold Coast made a comeback throughout the second half, however, the MacKillop boys were able to hold off Coomera to win 72-65.
The team for the day included Jesse Blain, Will Pamplin, Sam Blain, Toby Harper, Riley Harmer, Kaden Lawler, Lucas Scott, Kaeleb Morris and Brayden Champion.

Country Cup Regional Finals U13 & 15 Teams
Under 13s
After winning the first round of the Country Cup the under 13’s team progressed to round 2 at the Port Macquarie stadium. We competed in three games, needing to win all three to progress further in the competition.
We had some tough competition but all of the players showed their tenacity, commitment and athleticism and enabled us to win our first game 12 – 4 against St Claire’s High School Taree, our second game 30 – 0 against McAuley Catholic College Grafton. Our third was against Great Lake College Forster, the first half was a tough tussle with the team being down 6 – 4. The players worked hard in the second half and ended up winning 22 – 6.
Each player performed extremely well, with some players playing in multiple positions and out of position. The team outstandingly conducted themselves. Well done and good luck in Coffs Harbour on the 19 July. MVP: Jack Franklin
Glen Littler (Coach)
Under 15s
After a very close first round of the Country Cup, the team progressed through to the Regional final of the Country Cup played at the Regional Stadium, Port Macquarie.
The team encountered three powerful teams in John Paul College Coffs Harbour, Taree High School and St Joseph’s Regional. Unfortunately, the team was not able to record a win on the day, but their effort and perseverance were evident in every game. They were very competitive and in coming into the second half of each game they were still a chance of victory.
Cruz Lewis led the team very well as captain, Mason White was outstanding and strong in defence, Darwin Tink played tough in the forwards and Sam Young was elusive on the right wing.
On behalf of their coach, Mr Leary thank you to Mitch McGuiness and Bailey Partridge for assisting the day and big congratulations to the team for demonstrating a positive attitude throughout the day. MVP: Mason White and Cruz Lewis.
Warren Lorger (Coach)
Girls Mid North Coast Rugby 10s
Under 16s
MacKillop met a spirited Wauchope High School in their first-round robin game and won what was a very physical encounter 35 – 5. Some early nerves were settled after some big hits from Milla Swain, Charlotte Weatherley and Charlee Lawlor. The girls also displayed their superior ball skills after some slick passing by Alanah Logan-Pye and Sehtaya Gordan was aided by fantastic kicks by Charlee Bailey.
Game 2 saw the girls meet a well-drilled Dorrigo High, where we ran out eventual winners 20 – 5. The team gelled very well in defence. They were organised, communicated well and didn’t back down when Dorrigo held the ball for long periods of time. Jenna Bryan and Ruby O’Bryan showed great speed and footwork to make multiple breaks during the contest.
Our final game was a 5-all draw with St Clare’s College. MacKillop was the dominant side who, unfortunately, were let down by some dropped passes that were likely the result of a tired team. All in all, it was a great day and the girls can be very proud of the way they played and the spirit in which the games were played.
The team consisted of Ruby O’Bryan, Jenna Bryan, Charlee Bailey, Sophie Folkes, Lily Dunshea, Sehtaya Gordon, Evie Barnaby, Charlee Lawlor, Jasmine Lacey, Alanah Logan-Pye, Milla Swain, Charlotte Weatherley and Sarah Wilmot. MVP: Milla Swain
David Kennedy (Coach)
Under 14s
On June 21, 10 Girls represented the school at the Mid North Coast Rugby 10’s held at MacKillop College. They played 3 games throughout the day and remained undefeated throughout. This was due not only to some individual brilliance but from working well as a team. The experienced players lead by example and assist the others with less rugby experience. It was great to be able to play on the school oval and have Parents, Teachers and Students come along to support the team throughout the
The students should be congratulated for their efforts and fair play throughout the day. The team was London Curtis, Riley Dailey, Darcie Gleeson, Evie Hewens, EllieJo Letters, Shannon Lusung, Tameah Baird-Moran, Arliah Morris, Lily Mosley and Lacey Ryan. MVP: Evie Hewens.

Katrina Fanning Cup - Regional Finals
The Under 16 Girls Rugby League team were granted a wildcard to attend the Katrina Fanning Cup Regional Finals at Coffs Harbour on Thursday, 22 June.
The girls played their first games against Great Lakes in a tight tussle with Milla Swain and Lily Dunshea both scoring and the opposition scoring not long after. The opposition scored a try right on full time with their kick converting the goal to win the game 10-8. Jenna Bryan and Ruby O’Bryan both provided great support out wide often making line breaks. The player of the game went to Milla Swain.
In the second game, we played St Joseph’s Regional College with Regional scoring two early tries. Our girls hit back with a try to Penny Sprague under the posts and Lani Logan Pye converted the goal to keep us in the game. The opposition was too good with the final score line 26-6. Charlee Lawlor, Evie Barnaby, Jasmine Lacey, Lani and Chalree Bailey all aimed up in defence however the other team were too strong on the ball. The player of the game was Sehtaya Gordon.
Our final game was against St John Paul College. The girls were determined to finish the day with a win with two quick tries to Milla Swain and Charlee Lawlor and Lani converting the goal. The opposition caught us napping in defence and put 6 points on us to no avail with Lily Dunshea and Sehtaya both scoring great individual tries. The girls finished the day on a high winning 18-6.
MVP: Lily Dunshea who provided solid defence in every game and consistently hit holes scoring two tries.
Sincere thanks to Millie Dwyer, Suki Fraser and Janaye Singh who provided much-needed support off the bench and to Sophie Folkes and Susie Coster for running water for the girls.
Erin Denham – Coach
After winning all three games at the Katrina Fanning Cup Port Macquarie Gala Day, the 14s girl’s rugby league team were invited to play in the Regional Final in Coffs Harbour. With a number of players backing up from the athletics carnival and rugby union in the last two days, it was going to be tough competition. Unfortunately warming up we lost Gemirah to a torn muscle and needed to do a quick reshuffle of some positions.
Game one was against Coffs High School. The girls played well in attack moving the ball from wing to wing with Claire, Darcie, Evie and London all scoring a try each in the opening game and Arliah scoring two. The strong defence was also demonstrated with no tries scored against them.
In game two we faced up against Taree High School. This was an extremely close game going try for try up until the last 3 minutes. MacKillop found themselves 2 points down. They tapped off and the forwards (Evie, London and Shannon) led the charge to gain 40 metres towards the try line. Arliiah took off and used her speed to advance the ball towards the centre position with a pass to Ella on the wing who still had some work to do to score the winning try of the game. Two tries to Arliah, one to Darcie and Ella secured the win 16-14.
Game three was against John Paul College Coffs Harbour. With a number of little injuries, the girls lifted to finish the day. Arliah scored a hat-trick and Evie got herself another two tries. The support from all the 14 players throughout the day demonstrated the talent and determination these girls have to win their final game 24-4 and become champions of the day. They now compete at the next level in Tamworth on the 30 August.
MVP: Evie Hewens & Arliah Morris
Arliah Morris, Ella Oliver, Leah Hanson, Emily Cook, Millie Byrne, Darcie Gleeson, Claire Morris, London Curtis, Gemirah Fernando, Shannon Lusung, Lily Moseley, Evie Hewens, Tameah Baird-Moran and Riley Dailey.

Netball NSW Fast 5 Mixed Competition
Today we were the proud overall winners of the senior Fast 5 Netball competition in Port Macquarie.
Team Gold consisted of Will Pamplin, Jesse Blain, Fleur Sherlock, Piper Wilson, Molly Kirk, Angus Goodman, Elliot Warner and Tallara Duck.
We had 4 very strong wins over SCAS, Newman, Heritage & Melville High School.
One of the greatest joys of being a Teacher at MacKillop College is watching these delightful humans grow over the years. I take great pride in these students and cherish the moments we have together in sports.
A powerful team with many different skills came together to take out the championship.
A super strong Fleur Sherlock is undoubtedly the MVP of the day. Fleur is such a strong goal defence, she made it impossible for the opposing team to get in their shooting circle.
We loved having the boys come together to add to our superstar girls with passes so precise, if only Molly Kirk was allowed to pass the ball from one shooting third to another!
Thank you to all of our students for taking the time out of their busy study schedules to make today such a wonderful experience.
Finally, thank you to our wonderful umpires for our NSW Netball Fast 5 day!!! We could not run the day without them!
MVP: Fleur Sherlock

Open Boys Diocesan Touch Football
The Open Boys touch team came together with limited preparation. With a variety of students from Years 10 to 12, the boys entered the tournament with few expectations due to their limited knowledge of each other’s game.
The tournament started slow for the boys with a narrow defeat to Newman College and a draw against St Joseph’s Regional College. As the round games progressed the team started to warm up with some good wins over St Paul’s Kempsey and John Paul College Coffs Harbour.
Qualifying for the semifinals in third place, required a much-improved performance to overcome Newman College. In a close match, the boys led from start to finish, edging out Newman 4-3. Lenny Jensen, Cooper Lorger, Lucas Scott and Joe Carrick lead the team with good energy and speed in both attack and defence.
While the final was a close match in the end with St Joseph’s Regional, the boys were in control from the start. Early tries, good defence and excellent teamwork won the team the title. Congratulations to all boys involved especially our senior students in Lenny, Josh Newton, Noah Thick, Luke Hancock, Archie Kay and Ethan Hawkins on their final touch commitments for the College. It was also great to see our younger Year 10 students mixing it easily with the older students. The future looks bright for open’s touch football at MacKillop College. MVP: Lenny Jensen

Open Girls Diocesan Touch Football
The girls came together with fewer teammates than they expected but still played really well despite only
having 7 players for most of the day. Winning 1 out of 5 against Kempsey. With help from some
junior girls, we passed the ball around really well and had some more speed. All in all, it was a fun
day, good job girls.
MVP – Fleur Sherlock

Under 15 Girls Diocesan Touch Football
The sun was shining and we had perfect weather conditions set for the day. We were quite a young team competing in the under-15s but the girls were eager to do their best and demonstrate what talent we have coming through the school.
We started our campaign strong against Kempsey with a convincing 8-1 win. In our second game, we faced Regional which proved a tough and hard-fought game just losing in the last minute 3-2. The girls bounced back from this loss and won their final round game and semi against Coffs Harbour. We then met Regional again in the grand final.
The girls played their hearts out and fought till the end but unfortunately went down 4-2. I congratulate the girls on their incredible efforts and teamwork throughout the tournament.
MVP: Tilly Sinclair
